Detailed Information

The wat djerring Animal Facility, formerly known as The Epping Animal Welfare Facility, is a collaborative effort managed by Whittlesea City Council in partnership with Merri-bek and Darebin Councils. This innovative animal facility operates with the goal of achieving the best outcomes for both the animals in their care and the community at large. Through a carefully developed operating model, the three councils work together to reduce euthanasia rates, reunite lost animals with their owners, and facilitate adoptions to loving new homes.

Located at 20 Companion Place in Epping, the wat djerring Animal Facility offers a range of services to ensure the well-being of the animals under their care. Veterinary work, including vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and other necessary treatments, is provided to all animals in the facility. The facility operates under the principle of euthanizing animals only as a last resort, prioritizing ethical decision-making and the welfare of the animals. A dedicated committee, comprising experienced staff and veterinarians, oversees the rehoming process and ensures that every animal receives the necessary care and attention.

As part of their commitment to reuniting lost pets with their owners, the facility scans all incoming animals for microchips and cross-references them with the council’s registration database. Additionally, plans for a volunteer program and a lost report register are in the works to further enhance the facility’s services. With a focus on community engagement and animal welfare, the wat djerring Animal Facility stands as a beacon of compassion and care for animals in need.
